How Open-Source Filmmaking Works

1. Explore open tasks

Browse sections and contribution modules with explicit deliverables and stake percentages.

2. Submit contributions

Contributors submit materials, context notes, and links tied to a specific module.

3. Community voting

Submissions move to a transparent queue where they can be approved or rejected.

4. Credits update

Approved contributions earn ownership stake. That stake is also your voting weight on future submissions and your share of any film profit.

Core rule: contribution approval is how stake is earned. Stake determines both governance power and economic ownership.

What This Model Allows

  • Anyone can contribute to the film through clearly defined modules.
  • Anyone can fork this process and run a parallel production workflow.
  • By getting approved, contributors earn voting stake and ownership stake in the film.
  • Voting is stake-weighted, so influence tracks approved contribution history.
  • Decision history stays visible through contribution and vote records.

Project setup

Broad Listening is structured as an open contribution film with transparent stake allocation. For this demo, contributions and voting are simulated without Supabase.
